Mr. Addah M. Wenamine from the Department of Applied Chemistry, School of Chemical and Biochemical Sciences conducted his M.Phil. thesis with the title “Verification of Anti-Typhoidal Activities of Phyllanthus Fratenus, Allium Sativum and Carica Papaya Leaves, and Effects of Preservatives” under the supervision of Prof. Samson A. In this work, anti-typhoidal extracts were prepared. Their antimicrobial activities are determined with and without preservatives. The specific objectives were to: identify phytochemicals present in the leaf extracts of the samples; determine potencies of the separate and combined extracts with and without preservatives on S. typhi; and determine the minimum inhibitory concentration (MICs) of the separate and combined extracts.

For the award, Mr. Addah M. Wenawime received a sponsorship to participate in the 20th annual conference of the Ghana Chemical Society which was held at the University of Cape Coast from 15th -18th, May 2024 under the theme “Chemistry Making the World a Better Place”.
